The Thermal Transfer Products AB Series is a high-performance, water-cooled compressed air aftercooler that uses supplied cooling water to cool compressed air or gas discharged from piston (reciprocating) compressors. By dropping the temperature of the hot discharge air, it condenses moisture out of the compressed air stream and protects downstream piping, tools, and dryers.
The AB uses a shell-and-tube design built with round copper tubes, so the air-side tube bundle can be easily removed, cleaned, and maintained — a key advantage in dirty or oily compressed-air service where finned or plate coolers foul and can’t be cleaned. The brass hub-and-shell construction protects against galvanic and other forms of corrosion, extending service life in water-side environments. The design can also be dismantled for cleaning or repair, and capacity can be increased by adding plates in pairs.
The series includes ten models with flow capacities from 40 to 3,170 SCFM (1.1–89.8 SCMM), suitable for both piston and rotary screw compressors, with a maximum operating pressure of 250 PSI and a maximum operating temperature of 350°F. TTP’s XSelector® sizing program — available online and as a mobile app — helps select the right model for your airflow, inlet temperature, and cooling-water conditions.

It’s a water-cooled compressed air aftercooler from Thermal Transfer Products, using a copper-tube shell-and-tube design to cool compressed air or gas from piston and screw compressors with supplied cooling water.
It cools the hot air leaving the compressor, which condenses out moisture and drops discharge temperature — protecting downstream tools, piping, dryers, and air quality.
The round copper-tube air-side bundle can be removed and cleaned, so the aftercooler keeps performing in dirty or oily air service where non-cleanable cores would foul and lose capacity.
Brass hub-and-shell construction protects against galvanic and other types of corrosion, which matters given the cooling water flowing through the unit.

The AB is water-cooled (it needs a supply of cooling water) and handles a much wider flow range. The BGA is air-cooled and mounts to a compressor’s belt guard using the flywheel’s airflow — no water or fan motor. Choose the AB when cooling water is available and higher capacity is needed; choose the BGA for smaller reciprocating units without a water supply.
