Belt Guard Compressed Air Aftercooler — Brazed Aluminum, No Fan Motor Required

The Thermal Transfer Products BGA Series is a rugged, compact compressed air aftercooler built on a brazed aluminum bar-and-plate core for high performance and excellent heat recovery. It’s designed to mount directly to the belt guard of a reciprocating (piston) air compressor, using the free airflow from the compressor’s belt-driven flywheel fan to cool the compressed air — so no separate fan or fan motor is required. That makes it a simple, low-cost, energy-free way to add aftercooling to a reciprocating compressor.

By cooling the hot discharge air, the BGA condenses moisture out of the compressed air stream and lowers downstream temperatures, protecting tools, piping, and dryers. The all-aluminum core is lightweight and easy to install, and heat-exchanger models are also offered in round copper-tube-and-fin construction depending on the application.

BGA aftercoolers are rated at a maximum pressure drop of 3 PSI or less across all models (ratings based on a 250°F inlet temperature, 100 PSIG, and 500 FPM ambient-side air face velocity). For lower-capacity belt-guard cooling, TTP’s M Series covers 20–100 SCFM without a fan motor. Application engineers can help size the right belt-guard aftercooler for your compressor.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s a belt-guard compressed air aftercooler from Thermal Transfer Products, built on a brazed aluminum bar-and-plate core. It mounts to a reciprocating air compressor’s belt guard and cools the compressed air using the compressor’s own airflow.

No. It uses the free airflow generated by the compressor’s belt-driven flywheel fan, so there’s no separate fan motor to power or maintain — a key advantage for cost and simplicity.

It cools the hot air leaving the compressor, which condenses out moisture and lowers discharge temperature — protecting downstream tools, piping, dryers, and air quality.

Reciprocating (piston) compressors with a belt guard, where the flywheel fan provides the cooling airflow.

A maximum of 3 PSI or less across all models. Ratings are based on a 250°F inlet temperature, 100 PSIG, and 500 FPM ambient-side air face velocity.

Both mount to a belt guard and need no fan motor. The M Series is the lighter-duty, lower-capacity option (about 20–100 SCFM); the BGA is the heavier-duty, higher-performance brazed-aluminum version. Confirm the capacity range you need when selecting.
