Industrial Applications
Shell & Tube, Brass
The Thermal Transfer Products A/SA Series is a bare-tube-bundle shell and tube heat exchanger for water-to-oil cooling, versatile enough to accommodate a wide range of application requirements. It was developed as a direct interchange for ITT/Standard Xchange (formerly Standard-Xchange / ITT Standard) shell and tube coolers, making it a straightforward replacement in existing installations built around those units.
Tube size scales with the unit: the 600 and 800 sizes use a ¼″ tube for greater surface area, while the 1000, 1200, and 1600 sizes use a 3/8″ tube for lower pressure drop. The A Series is built in non-ferrous brass construction, making it ideal for water-to-water cooling including sea water applications. The SA Series is a competitively priced steel-construction version, using steel and cast-iron components for a lower-cost solution aimed at standard hydraulic applications; the SA is available in 1200 and 1600 sizes only.
As a legacy interchange product, the A/SA Series is best suited to replacement and service of existing ITT/Standard Xchange installations. For new designs, TTP’s current bare-tube shell-and-tube lines (such as the B/SB or HC Series) may be the better starting point — TTP Application Engineering can advise on the right choice.
A Series coolers are ideal for stationary hydraulic systems, power units, and marine applications where water or sea water is available for oil cooling. Common uses include hydraulic presses, marine winches, and dockside power packs.
Designed with copper-nickel tubes and bronze end bonnets for long-lasting performance in sea water and brackish environments.

It’s a bare-tube-bundle shell and tube heat exchanger from Thermal Transfer Products for water-to-oil cooling, developed as a direct interchange for ITT/Standard Xchange coolers.
It was designed to interchange with ITT/Standard Xchange (ITT Standard / Standard-Xchange) shell and tube units, so it can serve as a drop-in replacement in installations built around those coolers.
The A Series is non-ferrous brass construction, ideal for water-to-water and sea water cooling. The SA Series is a lower-cost steel/cast-iron version for standard hydraulic applications, available in 1200 and 1600 sizes only.
The 600 and 800 sizes use a ¼″ tube for greater surface area; the 1000, 1200, and 1600 sizes use a 3/8″ tube for lower pressure drop.
It’s a legacy interchange product, maintained primarily for replacing and servicing existing ITT/Standard Xchange installations. For new applications, consider TTP’s current B/SB or HC shell-and-tube series.
Yes — the brass A Series is suitable for water-to-water and sea water cooling. (The steel SA Series is for standard hydraulic service.)
